THIBODAUX, La. - Following another outright Southland Conference regular season championship, the Nicholls State University men's basketball team will make its first-ever appearance in the National Invitation Tournament, taking on the top-seeded SMU Mustangs on Wednesday, March 16. The bracket was released by the NIT Sunday night.
The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Moody Coliseum. It will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Nicholls enters the postseason with a 21-11 overall record while SMU has a 23-8 overall mark. The Mustangs are 16-0 at home this season and have won the last 18 games at Moody Coliseum. The winner advances to play No. 4 Washington State/Santa Clara in the second round on Saturday or Sunday.
Nicholls and SMU have one previous meeting, playing on Dec. 16, 2015 with the Mustangs cruising to a 86-42 victory.
