THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University softball team's home opener scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9 against Southern has been canceled due to unplayable field conditions. 

The Colonels were set to make their home debut after 20 challenging games on the road where they've picked up seven wins. They will face another tough slate of games this weekend in the Bevo Classic, hosted by the University of Texas. Nicholls takes on the host Longhorns as well as Minnesota and Drake. All five games will be broadcast on the Longhorn Network.
