NATCHITOCHES, La. - The Nicholls State University women's tennis team was unable to hand Northwestern State a first league loss as the Colonels fell 7-0 to the Lady Demons Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, Nicholls (11-9) ends its Southland Conference slate with a 3-3 record. Northwestern State (13-4, 6-0 SLC) clinched the regular season title with its eighth consecutive win over the Colonels in the series.
NSU secured the doubles point by winning courts 2 and 1, but
Morgan Forshag and
Sophia Sara Safarova held a 5-3 advantage for the Colonels when play was suspended. That would be the only highlight for Nicholls the rest of the day.
The Lady Demons did not give up a set in singles en route to securing a league championship.
Carla Bouygues had the closest match on Court 5, falling in a tiebreaker in the opening set before dropping the match, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 against Viktorie Wojcikova.

Nicholls will step out of conference for its final two matches, playing at Stephen F. Austin tomorrow at 12 p.m. before heading to Jackson State on Wednesday.
