Nicholls XC set to Compete in LSU Invitational

THIBODAUX, La. -- The Nicholls State University cross-country teams will travel to Baton Rouge to compete in the LSU XC Invitational on Friday, Sept. 23. The meet will feature in-state foes LSU, Southern, Southeastern, Xavier-Louisiana, and Dillard, along with out-of-state opponents Alcorn State and Texas A&M-Texarkana. For the second consecutive meet, the Colonels will face an NCAA South Central Regional ranked team with LSU's women being fifth and their men ninth.

WHAT: LSU XC Invitational
WHEN: Friday, Sept. 23 | 8:15 a.m. (M) | 9 a.m. (W)
WHERE: University Club Clubhouse | Baton Rouge, La.

The Colonels are coming off their best finishes of the season with the women taking second and the men taking third at the fourth Annual Nicholls XC Invitational. Across both races, the Red & Gray accumulated seven top 15 finishes including 5 in the top 10.

Nicholls cross country head coach Stefanie is looking forward to Colonel's building on the momentum from last week.

"After strong team showings at our home meet it has been fun to have a quick turnaround to race at LSU this Friday, Slekis said. "We had a strong workout this week so I'm looking forward to us working in those groups to try and match up as well as we can against a strong regionally ranked team like LSU."

Slekis and the teams know they cannot become satisfied and continue to improve.

"Although we had a great team day at our home meet there were definitely some individuals on both our men's and women's teams that agree they could have a better day, so it is nice to have another race opportunity so quickly for us to make a few adjustments in their preparation and execution of their race plans to go out and run to their full potential," Slekis stated. "This will have a positive impact on our team's performance."

Slekis also spoke about having the opportunity to run at LSU's course.

"They have a nice course designed on their golf course where they hosted the SEC Championship in 2020," Slekis said.  "We were looking forward to racing there last year but weren't able to. "
