Colonel Soccer Drops Both Weekend Matches

THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University women's soccer team fell in both of its conference matches over the weekend, dropping a 3-1 contest Friday at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before falling to Lamar, 4-0, at home on Sunday.

The losses put Nicholls at 2-8-1 overall and 0-4 in the Southland.

In Friday's match against the Islanders, the home squad took an early 1-0 lead before Shelby Nickal notched the first goal of her career, scoring in the 20th minute. But A&M-Corpus Christi scored before the intermission and added another goal in the second half for insurance.

Nicholls had five shots in the loss with Nickal accounting for two. Keeper Reagan Carter totaled three saves while allowing all three Islander goals.

On Sunday, the first-place Lamar Cardinals scored all four goals in the first half for the win. LU fired off 25 shots while limiting the Colonels to only three.

Freshmen Elizabeth Zepeda and Megan Cook split time as goalkeeper. Despite facing 13 shots in the second half, Cook kept Lamar from extending its lead with a total of five saves.
