Colonel Tennis set for Spring Season in new home

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University tennis program officially begins its 2023 Spring Season on Saturday, January 28 at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.

The Colonels will be playing their home matches this season at the brand new Sports Complex just down the street from campus. The complex features 12 NCAA regulation tennis courts, LED lighting and short fence lines.

"We're excited to kick off the season in a state-of-the-art facility. The Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex is the premier tennis venue in the region," said Greg Harkins, Nicholls Tennis Head Coach. "The facility can hold a few hundred people and we expect it to be an exciting time at the courts."

Both the men and women's tennis teams make their debut next weekend, taking on the University of North Alabama Lions. The men will start things off at 10:30 a.m. with the women scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

The women will host a total of 11 matches at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex with the home finale set for April 4. A few on the nonconference opponents visiting are ULM, Southern Miss and Stephen F. Austin.

Last season, the Colonels posted a 12-11 record with a 3-3 mark in conference play. Nicholls starts its SLC schedule on March 15.

The men's team is slated for 14 home matches in the Sports Complex with their regular season finale scheduled for April 14 against Loyola-New Orleans.

The Colonels finished last season 11-10 overall but dropped all three matches in conference. However, Nicholls claimed a thrilling 4-1 win over NJIT in the Southland Conference Tournament. The Red and Gray also had a perfect 6-0 record at home and will host each of their league matches this season at the Sports Complex.

The SLC Tourney will be hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, starting on April 20.

"Our schedules are balanced but challenging," Coach Harkins said. "We have a lot of experience coming back and some newcomers who are really going to help us. It's an exciting time for Colonel Tennis."
