CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Freshman
Lexi Alexander totaled 14 points and 14 rebounds for her fifth double-double but the Nicholls State University women's basketball team was defeated 86-47 Thursday evening at the American Bank Center.
With the loss, Nicholls fell to 4-15 overall and 1-7 in conference. The Colonels have lost the last five to the Islanders, which improved to 12-7 and 7-1.
The game got out of hand quickly as the Islanders led by as much as 17 in the first quarter. They took a 47-24 advantage at the break and the 39-point margin of victory was the largest lead of the night.
Alexander was the lone Colonel in double figures, shooting 7 of 17 from the field. Nicholls made just 27 percent overall and was 1 of 15 from the 3-point line. Coming off her player of the week nod,
Deonna Brister had eight points and two steals, while
Amelia Sandie chipped in with seven points.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi nearly doubled the Colonels' shooting performance, making 50 percent from the field and 10 of 21 from 3-point range. The Islanders made 69 percent of their shots in the opening quarter for a commanding 28-11 lead.
Paige Allen led AMCC with 16 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Makinna Serrata also scored a game-high 16 points.

Nicholls will stay in Texas for a Saturday matchup against UIW. Tipoff in San Antonio is scheduled for 2 p.m.
