THIBODAUX, La. – Freshman outside hitter
Gracie Campbell recorded her fifth career double-double as the Nicholls State University volleyball team was swept by McNeese inside Stopher Gym on Tuesday night.
Campbell registered a team-high 11 kills and 10 digs to lead the Colonels and earn her third consecutive double-double of the season.
The Colonels go off to a strong start in the first frame and jumped out to a 15-12 lead behind a five-point scoring run. The Cowgirls responded by going on an impressive 13-2 run to win the set 25-17.
The second set, the Cowgirls built momentum and won the set 25-19 after hitting .469 for the set.
In the third stanza, the Cowgirls went on three separate scoring runs to take the set 25-18.
The Colonel offense was paced by junior setter
Kendall Battistella who finished the contest with 16 assists.
Freshmen outside hitters
Autumn Perry and
Addison Phares combined for 10 kills. Their classmate
Deniz Akgul had five kills and posted a team best .385.
Defensively, freshman outside hitter
Tierney Terrell and Battistella tallied six and five digs respectively. Senior middle blocker
Jhayla Bolden led the unit with three blocks.
