HAMMOND, La. – The Nicholls State University volleyball team was swept by Southeastern inside the Pride Roofing University Center on Thursday night.
In the first set, the Colonels struggled to stop the Lady Lions attack who hit .385 and went on a 14-1 run made the count 16-6. Nicholls was able to score six more times but Southeastern used the momentum to take the first set 25-12.
The Lady Lions kept their energy going into the second frame and started with a 15-4 surge. After that, Southeastern took 10 of next 16 points to win the set 25-10.
The third stanza saw the Red & Gray go on their best run of the day (6). However, the Lady Lions took the set 25-11 to clinch the victory after piecing together a five-point and a nine-point scoring run.
The Colonel offense was led by freshman outside hitter
Gracie Campbell who finished the contest with seven kills. Her classmates
Deniz Akgul and
Autumn Perry had five and four kills, respectively.
The attack was run by a pair of setters. Freshman
Berra Soyler tallied 12 assists, while junior
Kendall Battistella registered seven.
Defensively, junior libero
Rae Leano and freshman
Tierney Terrell lead the team with four digs apiece. Akgul and sophomore middle blocker
Paris Dixon had the only blocks for the Colonels.
