Nicholls WBB Knocks off Tulane

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Nicholls State women's basketball team defeated Tulane 69-66 inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena at Devlin Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.
 
This is the first Red & Gray victory over the Green Wave since 1991 and broke a 16-game losing streak.
 
The Green Wave began the game on a 18-9 run but the Colonels responded with a 12-4 surge to close the first period down by 2 (21-23).
 
In the second quarter the Red & Gray offense was clicking on all cylinders as they shot 50% from the field (8-16) and hit two shots from long range. Nicholls won the frame 19-11 to hold a 40-34 advantage at the intermission.
 
The Colonels played stout defense and used efficient offense to keep distance in the second half. Tulane led for 20 seconds in the 3rd quarter and never led in the 4th.
 
The balance Nicholls offense saw four players finish in double figures and one end with eight.
 
Freshman guard Britiya Curtis played 33 minutes off the bench and led the unit with 18 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. She also cashed in four (4-9) of the Colonels seven triples.
 
Sophomore forward Lexi Alexander played all 40 minutes, poured in 17 points, and snagged eight rebounds.
 
Freshman guard Betzalys Delgado and senior guard Kyla Hamilton each had 11 points and combined for 11 assists.
 
Junior forward Violette Skipworth scored eight points including a clutch steal and fast break layup late in the contest.

The Red & Gray will return home and host SUNO on Friday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. inside Stopher Gym.
