NEW ORLEANS - After starting conference play last season with a win on the Lakefront, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team was hoping for the same result in its final road game this season but after a spirited first half, the Colonels were unable to snap their losing skid with an 88-73 loss Thursday night at Lakefront Arena.
Nicholls (4-23, 1-15 SLC) trailed just 41-38 at the break but was outscored in the third quarter, 32-17. The Colonels came as close as 11 in the final period, however, could never get the deficit back to single digits.
Adrian Mann led the Red and Gray with a career-high 22 points on 8 of 12 from the field. She was 3 of 4 from 3-point range as Nichols made 8 of 14 for the game. Seven of the 3-balls came in the first half on 12 attempts.
Kyla Hamilton flirted with a triple-double, racking up 16 points, eight assists and seven steals.
Deonna Brister had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while
Lexi Alexander added 12 points before fouling out.
UNO also had a sharp-shooting effort from behind the arc, making 11 of 19. The Privateers also outrebounded the Colonels by 13 and had a significant 36-3 advantage in bench points.
The Privateers had three players combine for 73 points, led by 28 off the bench from Tara Green.
The loss was the 12th consecutive for the Colonels, dating back to their overtime win at Lamar on Jan. 12.
