FRISCO, Texas - Nicholls State University softball utility player Melise Gossen was named Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, as the league office announced Monday afternoon its weekly awards.

A senior from Rayne, Louisiana, Gossen continued her stellar campaign, posting a .444 batting average with three homers and 13 RBIs to lead the Colonels to a 5-2 record this past week. She homered in each contest against Yale and smashed a 3-run shot in a run-rule win over Alcorn. Five of her eight hits went for extra bases as she also posted two doubles.

After the first three weeks, Gossen ranks first in the Southland in home runs (6), slugging (.911) and RBIs (22).

The honor was the first weekly award for Gossen in her career. She was an All-Southland Third Team recipient last season.
