Colonels' skid continues in home loss to New Orleans

THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University women's basketball team suffered its seventh consecutive loss as New Orleans never trailed in a 83-68 victory Thursday evening at Stopher Gymnasium.

Nicholls dropped to 4-18 overall and 1-10 in the Southland. New Orleans upped its record to 5-16 and 4-8.

Lexi Alexander continued her stellar freshman campaign with a team-high 23 points to go along with seven rebounds. Playing with their second-leading scorer, Deonna Brister, the Colonels received a season-high 18 points off the bench by Adrian Mann. Kyla Hamilton also finished in double figures with 12 points.

Nicholls fell behind by double digits early, scoring only four points through the first five minutes. They got the offense going by hitting three 3-pointers the rest of the period, but UNO held a 27-15 advantage after one quarter.

The Colonels managed to trim the deficit to as little as five points in the second, thanks to two more 3-balls. The last by Hamilton made the score 40-35 with two minutes until the half. UNO went into the break with a 43-37 lead.

In the second half, Nicholls could never make a push to grab its first lead. Mann made a layup to beat the buzzer at the end of the third for a seven-point deficit; however, the lead grew back to double figures early in the fourth as UNO won its second straight game in the series.

UNO's DeArica Pryor matched Alexander with 23 points while Tara Green recorded a double-double with 18 points and 16 rebounds. The Privateers hammed the Colonels on the glass with a 51-25 advantage.

Mann's season-high was helped by 3 of 6 from 3-point range. Coming off the bench, Kate Manley also matched her career-high of nine points which came against New Orleans last season.
