THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University baseball team collected a pair of wins on Tuesday and Wednesday against Southeastern Baptist College, defeating the Chargers 10-2 and 20-0 (7 inn.) on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field.
The victories improved the Colonels' record to 6-4 on the season and pushed their winning streak to three games heading into the home weekend series against Memphis.
Nicholls totaled a combined 21 hits against Southeastern Baptist while the staff allowed 11. In Tuesday's matchup, each squad had nine hits but Nicholls took advantage of 12 walks. Although the normal starting lineup sat the game, the Colonels received some big performances at the plate by
Kade Turnage (3-for-4, 3 RBI) and
Jordan Thompson (1-1, 4 RBI).
Jayden Kay and
Cade Crosby each picked up a double.
Harper Jordan notched the victories with two hits allowed in 2.1 innings of relief. He struck out one as Nicholls totaled six as a staff. Starter
Michael Quevedo led the team with three strikeouts in 2.2 innings.
In Wednesday's meeting, Nicholls plated 10 runs in the second frame to break the game wide open.
The Colonels outhit SBC, 12-2, for the game and the Charger defense also committed five errors.
Edgar Alvarez,
Erick Ordonez and
Parker Coddou each finished with two hits. Alvarez and Ordonez doubled while Coddou had a 2-run triple.
Hunter LeBlanc had the lone home run, sending a full-count offering over the right field wall.
Josh Mancuso took the victory for the Colonels, striking out four in 2.0 innings.
ON DECK
Nicholls and Memphis will play a three-game series at The Did, starting Friday (March 3) night at 6 p.m. The Colonels won two-of-three last season against the Tigers in Memphis.
