HOUSTON, Texas - The Nicholls State University beach volleyball team played in five matches over the weekend in the Southland Roundup at the Third Coast Beach Volleyball Courts.

Although Nicholls (2-11) went winless in the event, the duo of Bethanie Durant and Alisha Wischkaemper came away with two victories for the Colonels. The Red and Gray lost both matches on Saturday against San Jose State and HCU, but the Durant/Wischkaemper tandem took their opponent in the San Jose match to three sets.

On Sunday, they picked up a straight set win over Boise State's Emilia Guerra-Acuna/Sharli O'Neil by winning both matches 21-19. It was not the only point for the Colonels in the match as Katie Jones/Luciana Chuong battled in three sets against Kaylee Mejia/Lily Patock and notched a 21-18, 8-21, 15-13 win.

In the second match against New Orleans,  Durant/Wischkaemper moved up a court to No. 3 and knocked off Hannah Volpi/Valerie Vujnovich. After falling in the opening set, they went on to win 11-21, 21-15, 15-11.

The Colonels dropped all five courts in the finale against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
