Men's Tennis can't hang on against Lamar

THIBODAUX, La. - After winning doubles, the Nicholls State University men's tennis team was a point away from securing the victory against Lamar but the Cardinals took the final two singles courts to hand the Colonels a 4-3 loss Sunday afternoon at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.

With the loss, Nicholls (6-8) fell to 0-2 in conference while Lamar (9-8) improved to 1-0.

Lamar struck first in doubles with a win on Court 1 but the Colonels grab a 1-0 lead after victories on 2 and 3. Omar Morsy and Quentin Lamothe secured a 6-3 win at No. 2 before Antonio Sasso and Lukas Morand paired up for a 6-4 win on the final court.

Lamar took the lead in singles with victories on Courts 1 and 6, but the Colonels came back to claim the next two. After Morsy and Frederick McRae came up short in their singles matches, Sasso and Lamothe won on lines 5 and 4. Sasso won 6-2, 6-2 against Max Milic and Lamothe made it 3-2 Colonels with a three-set win over Jon Crespo.

The final two points were decided in three sets as well. At No. 3, Harry Collins won his first set against Martin Garcia 6-3 and nearly clinched the point in the second before falling 7-6 (7-4). In the third, Garcia evened the match with a 6-3 victory.

For the deciding point at No. 3, Illian Borlee and LU's Filippo Salsini traded 6-3 victories in the first two sets. However, Salsini finished off the comeback with a 6-3 triumph for the win.
