BATON ROUGE, La. - The Nicholls State University beach volleyball team finished its regular season with three matches in the Battle of the Bayou, hosted by LSU.

Nicholls was scheduled to play No. 10 Stanford on Saturday to wrap up the weekend but the match was canceled due to weather.

Although the Colonels were unable to pick up a point for the weekend, the duo of McKenna Malone/Bethanie Durant had strong showings in their last two matches. Against Houston Christian on Friday, the pair nearly topped Mary Alper/Paige Palmer in the opening set but went on to fall 22-20, 21-11. Then against North Florida, they won the first set against Michaela Rezentes/Katie Camp, 21-15, and led 17-14 in the second before play was suspended. With weather in the area, the matches were stopped once a team clinched the victory with three points.

Nicholls will return to the courts next weekend in the Southland Conference Championship in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Colonels open play against No. 2 Houston Christian at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 21.
