HAMMOND, La. - The Nicholls State University track program battled thunderstorms on Saturday but was able to finish its day at the Strawberry Relays, hosted at the Southeastern Track Complex.
The Colonels posted several personal bests, particularly in the throws events. Nicholls also claimed two event winners on the women's side and one of the men's.
Maryse Mbenoun took first in the 800m with a 2:19.40 and
Elsa Rijpstra broke into the Top 10 at Nicholls with a 4:44.10 to take the 1500m.
Ceren Yilmaz placed second in the 1500m with a 4:51.12.
For the men,
Amari Godette took first in the 100m with a 10.78 and had the second fastest time in the 200m, clocking a 21.88.
Three Colonels set personal marks in the javelin. For the women,
Traya Bruce had the second longest throw for the event and placed eighth all-time on the Top 10 list with a 39.63m. For the men's squad,
Ryan Nicholls' mark of 48.87m was good for second overall while
Gavin Windham's 45.59m placed him at fourth.
Another new school mark came in the women's shot put as freshman
Maggie Portier recorded a throw of 9.63 to place ninth on the all-time performers list.
Kevin Boden ran a personal best 1:54.20 in the 800m to place third out of 15 runners.
