CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Nicholls State University beach volleyball team finished its season with a 3-0 loss to New Orleans in the elimination round of the Southland Conference Tournament on Saturday.
Despite being one of the three losses, court No. 5 saw
Taylor Heeb and
Kendall Battistella pick up a victory in the second set. The duo would be outlasted by UNO's Valentina Echeverri and Rita Zecchin, 21-16, 17-21, 15-11.
The Privateers took the other two completed matches in straight sets.
Alisha Wischkaemper and
McKay Wilson fell 21-16 and 21-17 at No. 4 while
Aspen Steele and
Luciana Chuong were dropped at No. 2, 21-12 and 21-10.
Kennedi Steele and
Katie Jones had another solid showing at No. 1 before their match was suspended. After winning a set on Friday against the Southland Pair of the Year, Steele and Jones battled to a second-set lead against UNO at 13-11 after falling in the first, 21-11.
McKenna Malone and
Bethanie Durant's match also went unfinished at 14-21 and 10-20.
Nicholls ended its third full season with a 2-28 overall record, claiming both of the wins in its inaugural home event. In league play, the Colonels fell in all six matchups before dropping both SLC Tournament matches.
