THIBODAUX, La. - Playing at home for the first time in over two weeks, the Nicholls State University softball team scored all six runs in the first four innings as the Colonels knocked off Southern University, 6-3, on Wednesday night at Swanner Field at GeoSurfaces Park.
Nicholls (24-22) outhit Southern in the win, 9-5, and took full advantage of four Lady Jaguar errors for four unearned runs.
Claire Sisco led the offense with a double and a triple while
MaKynli Miller had a pair of singles.
Molly Yoo improved to 11-10 with the victory. Yoo subbed in with Nicholls leading 6-3 to start the fifth and retired eight of the nine batters she faced, allowing one to reach on a hit-by-pitch. She added three strikeouts in the win.

Southern took the lead in the first on an RBI single by Alana Mark. But VandenBout tied it back up with her own run-scoring single in the bottom half, plating Sisco who doubled earlier in the inning.
A walk and a
Tal Evans single made way for the go-ahead run in the second. Nicholls took the lead on a
Lilianna Robledo groundout before Sisco walked and stole second on the play, forcing an errant throw that trickled into the outfield to allow another run to score.
In the third, Mackenzie Ogden tripled with one out for Southern. However, the Lady Jaguars put down a bunt and VandenBout was able to field it and toss it with her glove to get the runner at home. The Colonels then pushed their lead to 5-1 after two more Southern errors allowed for two more runs.
But the Lady Jaguars got the runs back in the fourth after Asia George tripled in two against
Jensen Gremillion.
The final run of the game was in the bottom of the fourth. Sisco legged out a triple and
Erin Krause ripped a base hit through the right side for a 6-3 advantage.
Yoo took care of the rest by not surrendering a hit in three innings of work.
