Nicholls Softball's Krause, Poche' named All-Louisiana

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Nicholls State University had two representatives on the 2023 Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana Collegiate Softball Team announced Tuesday by the LSWA as freshman Erin Krause was named first team and junior Alexa Poche' earned second team.

The duo is the first all-state honorees under second-year head coach Justin Lewis, who tied for second in the state's coach of the year vote. Krause and Poche' are also the first Colonels since 2019 to make the LSWA softballs squad.

Krause completed a trifecta of honors by garnering All-Louisiana First Team after being named All-Southland First Team and All-Region earlier this spring. She ranked fourth in the Southland with a team-high .363 batting average and paced the league with five triples. The Cypress, Texas native racked up 14 multi-hit games and tied for fifth in the SLC with 12 doubles while accounting 30 RBIs and 34 runs scored. Krause was a versatile fielder for the Colonel defense, seeing most of her time at second base while also playing shortstop and third. She led Nicholls with 113 assists and helped turn six double plays.

In her third season, Poche' was selected all-state for the first time in her career after ranking fifth in the Southland with a .342 batting average and 40 RBIs. She posted the eighth-best slugging percentage in the SLC at .529 thanks to 10 doubles, five home runs and two triples. The Colonel outfielder pieced together a 12-game hitting streak and had two walk-off singles in extra innings. A native of New Orleans, Poche' closed out her junior campaign by being named SLC All-Tournament after helping the Colonels to a pair of victories.

A Louisiana Sports Writers Association panel of media and sports publicists selected the All-Louisiana team, based on statistics and performances through the teams' conference tournaments.
