STEPHENVILLE, Texas - After being outshot by double figures in both matches in the opening weekend, the Nicholls State University women's soccer team battled Tarleton to a 13-8 shot margin but the Colonels were unable to come away with their first goal of the season, falling 3-0 Friday night at the Tarleton Soccer Complex.
The Texans (2-0-1) went ahead with a goal in the 18th minute before the Colonels (0-3) had a chance to tie the score before the break. But a penalty kick by
Allie Jones was stopped by goalkeeper Mikayla Kendall to keep Nicholls off the board in the 42nd minute. Following the break, Tarleton added a pair of insurance goals to improve to 2-0 all-time against the Colonels.
Of the eight shots by the Nicholls offense, four were on target.
Koryn Barrett and
Lauren Andre each had two shots with one on goal, and
Brooke Cox also had one knocked away by Kendall.
Jaden Jeter and
Kinga Koronkiewicz were also credited with a shot each.
Elizabeth Zepeda saw all 90 minutes at goalkeeper for the Red and Gray, tallying three saves. Nicole Fels scored the first goal for TSU while Jenaya Brown and Jaycie Bass found the back of the net in the second half.
