HOUSTON, Texas – The Nicholls State University women's soccer team was beaten by Houston Christian University 5-0 at Sorrels Field on Sunday afternoon.
Nicholls was outshot 28-5. Junior
Kori Ingram led the team with two shots and one on goal and junior midfielder
Lauren Andre recorded the other shot on target. Senior forward
Gabrielle Champagne and freshman forward
Kelsey Villatoro tallied one shot apiece.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Elizabeth Zepeda recorded eight of her 10 saves in the first half.
The scoring began in the 17th minute, when the Huskies' Mia Salas found the back of the net from distance after a corner kick was headed towards midfield. Five minutes later, Emily James connected with Xya Balderas to put HCU up 2-0 at the intermission.
The Huskies put the game on ice with 15 minutes left in the contest when Alexa Huerta capitalized on an impressive cross by Balderas. In the 84th minute, Huerta converted a penalty shot, and in the 85th minute Evelyn Slaughter found Ryan Ford for the final goal of the match.
