THIBODAUX, La. -- Three first-half goals by the Nicholls State University women's soccer team lifted the Colonels over Texas Southern 4-1 for their first victory of the season at Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.
The Colonels took the most shots they have had all season (20) and the four goals by Nicholls is the most they have scored in a win since Sept. 1, 2019.
After scoring her first career goal on Friday, junior defender
Lauren Andre found the net again for the Colonels' first and third goals of the day, while senior attacker
Kaitlyn Poirrier and junior midfielder
Kinga Koronkiewicz added goals.
The Red & Gray struck first in the 24th minute after Andre shot a rebound off freshman midfielder
Brooke Cox's shot to put Nicholls up 1-0.
The Colonels quickly added another via nice footwork in the box by Poirrier ('27), before Andre put Nicholls up 3-0 with a free kick outside the box ('35).
In the 36th minute, the Tigers' Isabella Dillow found Rayal Henderson for the goal to make the count 3-1.
After a foul in the box by TSU goalkeeper Jaidyn Christophe in the 52nd minute, Koronkiewicz put the game on ice with a penalty kick for her first career goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Megan Cook earned her second career victory after logging all 90 minutes and registering three saves.

The Red & Gray will travel to Ruston to battle Louisiana Tech (Sept. 7), then go to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to face Southern Miss (Sept. 10).
