THIBODAUX, La. – After being clipped in mid-week games at McNeese and Southeastern, the Nicholls State University volleyball team finished the busy week with a sweep of UNO on Saturday afternoon.
In the two losses, the Colonel offense hit .105 and .112 before finding their groove in Saturday's win as the unit posted their highest percentage in SLC action (.343).
In the victory in New Orleans, the Red & Gray setters
Evelyn Trivino Espinosa and
Ava-Claire Calais paced the offense effortlessly as they registered 23 and 12 assists respectively.
The Colonels' balanced attack was led by
Leah Linares Castro,
Jordan Gamble and
Tierney Terrell who finished with 10 kills apiece.
Makila Billingsley added six kills while
Addison Phares and
Khara Morton combined for eight.
The Colonels played stout defense as the unit held the Privateers to 28 kills (.144). Terrell led the team with 11 digs, followed by libero
Kenley Nonato and Calais who each had 10. In the middle,
Makila Billingsley,
Khara Morton, and Gamble each had a block.
