FRISCO, Texas - Nicholls State University men's basketball duo
Jamal West Jr. and
Robert Brown III were named to the 2024-25 Preseason All-Southland Teams as the league office announced Thursday its preseason teams and polls.
Nicholls, coming off a 20-win season and led by second-year head coach
Tevon Saddler, took third in the preseason poll and received three first-place votes. Last season's champion McNeese was the favorite with 242 points and 21 first-place votes, followed by SFA (208) and Nicholls (205).
West was named preseason first-team after ranking 12th in the Southland in scoring at 13.4 points per game and fifth in rebounds (7.4) while leading the league in blocks (1.6) last season. A native of Baltimore, West also ranked third in the SLC with a 50.3 percentage from the field. He was named All-SLC Second Team and SLC All-Defensive for his debut season with the Colonels.
Brown landed on preseason second-team after averaging 13.8 points last season. He was able to elevate his scoring in league play to 16.7 ppg. Brown was one of the top three-point shooters in the SLC, draining 80 at a 40.8 percent clip which was the second-highest percentage in the league.
