Colonels Compete in South Texas Road Swing

 THIBODAUX, La – The Nicholls State University volleyball team was beaten by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UTRGV in its road trip over the weekend.
 
GAME ONE: Nicholls (0) @ Texas A&M – Corpus Chirsti (3) (6-25, 18-25, 22-25)
  
In the first set, the Colonels offense started strong but lost its rhythm while the Islanders hit well throughout and took advantage of errors. The second frame saw the Colonels' attack gained some momentum and more than double their kill total from the first set (12).
 
In the final stanza, the the Colonels and Islanders fought back and forth until the Islanders secured the match with a 25-22.
 
The Red & Gray attack was led by Olivia Lunt who posted eight kills followed by Tierney Terrell (7). The offense was paced by setter Evelyn Trivino Espinosa who registered 20 assists and six kills.
 
The Colonel defense totaled 31 digs with Kenley Nonato leading the way with 10 followed by Terrell (7). At the net, Sarah Daniels had two blocks while four others had one apiece.
 
GAME TWO: Nicholls (0) @ UTRGV (3) (14-25, 12-25, 7-25)
 
The Colonels' offensive struggles carried over into the action in Edinburg. The unit tallied 18 kills while the Vaqueros had 43 while hitting .450 from the floor.
 
Leah Linares Castro had a team-high five kills whole Terrell and Lunt had four a piece. Espinosa dished out 15 assists. Defensively, Brightyn Ratcliff led the Colonels with six digs while Espinosa added five.

The Red & Gray (7-13, 2-7 SLC) will begin a three-game home stand inside Stopher Gymnasium on Thursday, Oct. 31 against Southeastern at 6:30 pm.
