THIBODAUX, La. – In a game truly like no other, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team scored 48 second half points to beat Grambling 76-61 inside Stopher Gym on Wednesday afternoon.
Shortly after senior forward
Deonna Brister hit a triple to give the Colonels a 15-10 lead at the end of the first quarter a campus wide power outage suspended play until noon the following day.
After the delay, the Colonels offense picked up where they left off and jumped out to a 26-20 lead midway through the second quarter. However, the Tigers responded with a 10-2 run to end the quarter. Grambling held a 30-28 lead at the break.
After a back and forth first half, the Colonels offense was clicking on all cylinders in the second half as the unit shot 14-22 (63%) from the field. The surge was led by junior guard
Tanita Swift who hit eight field goals and poured in a game high 22 points.
Sophomore forward
Britiya Curtis hit five field goals including two triples and seven shots from the charity stripe to finish with 19 points. Senior forward
Deonna Brister hit three shots from beyond the arc as she finished with 13 points.
Elli Garnett scored nine points and hauled in a game high nine boards.
Sharonica Hartsfield led the Tigers with 14 points, followed by Kahia Warmsley who had 9. Zayla Tinner and Alyssa Phillip finished with 8 points apiece.
