THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team scored eight runs in the sixth inning of its 19-12 victory over Sacred Heart University on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Colonels finished the game with 18 hits and the high scoring sixth frame was highlighted by junior catcher
Jaden Collura and senior
Erick Ordonez who hit back-to-back home runs. Collura added a two-run blast in the seventh inning.
The Red & Gray offense was led by
Aaron Biediger who went 5-6 with three RBI.
Garrett Felix went 3-5 and had three RBI, including the first one in the huge inning for the Colonels. Felix hit an RBI single to right field in the first inning, while Biediger sparked a four-run inning for Nicholls with an RBI double. Felix capped the frame with his second RBI single.
In the fourth inning, the Pioneers were able to take advantage of Colonel mistakes and score six runs on two hits. Alex Ungar hit a base clearing double before Tim McGuire hit a three-run shot to right field. After that, Nicholls took advantage on an error to score two runs, but the Pioneers responded with two more runs in the fifth to tie the game again (9-9).
The Red & Gray pitching staff had double figure strikeouts (11) for the third consecutive game. However, the unit walked nine to assist the Pioneers scoring.
Dylan Farley earned the win for the Colonels.
