NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane Green Wave pushed across a run in three straight innings as the Nicholls State University baseball team suffered a 3-2 loss Tuesday night at Greer Field in Turchin Stadium.
Tulane grabbed the lead in the fifth but Nicholls evened it up on a
Garrett Felix RBI single. The Green Wave scored on sac flies in the next two frames before the Colonels added one in the eighth on an error.
Trey Cehajic retired the Colonels in order in the ninth to pick up the save.
Felix led the offense by going 3-for-4 with three singles. He had a potential RBI in the opening inning wiped out after Tulane left fielder Ben Romano threw out
Aaron Biediger at home trying to score from second. But Felix returned the favor in the bottom half by throwing out a runner at the plate from left field.
Dylan Farley made the start on the mound and struck out eight batters in 4.2 innings. He sat down the side in the third before adding two more strikeouts in the fourth. He ended his night with one earned run on four hits.
Farley left in the fifth with two runners on and Tulane was able to grab a 1-0 on an RBI single. But center fielder
Narvin Booker Jr. limited the damage with the final out as he made a diving catch to save two runs.
In the sixth,
Parker Coddou and Biediger singled to set up Felix's game-tying hit. But the Colonels would also strand two runners to keep the game at 1-1.
Leadoff doubles for Tulane in the next two innings made way for a pair of sacrifice flies and a 3-1 advantage.
The Colonels' final threat came in the eighth when
Edgar Alvarez had his own leadoff double. He later scored on a two-out error and
Basiel Williams followed with a base hit to put two on. But Cehajic forced a flyout to end the inning.
Nicholls outhit Tulane on the night, 10-8. Williams and Biediger each had two hits while
Kaden Amundson added a single. Teo Banks led the Green Wave with a 2-for-4 night.
