THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team beat Dillard University 14-2 in seven innings on Ben Meyer Diamond at Didier Field on Wednesday night.
Nicholls (4-1) remain unbeaten at home by playing stout defense, efficient offense, and capitalizing off Dillard mistakes.
Four Colonels registered two hits and the offense received 10 free passes via seven walks and three hit-by-pitches. Third baseman
Cade Crosby highlighted a four-run sixth with a solo shot to right field. Later in the inning, catcher
Kade Turnage and outfielder
Basiel Williams each hit an RBI double.
In the third inning, Dilliard scored via an RBI single by TyMitch McCollugh, but Nicholls responded by scoring five runs in the ensuing half stanza. Crosby got the action going with an RBI single followed by two runs scored from walks, one from a wild pitch, and one from a
Jayden Kay sacrifice fly. Crosby and Kay both added sacrifice flies in the fourth to put the Red & Gray up 8-1.
Starting pitcher
Sam Hill earned his first win of the season after striking out four and giving up two hits and one run in four innings of work.
Dallis Moran tallied two strikeouts in his lone inning of action.
