THIBODAUX, La. -- The Nicholls State University baseball team beat Eastern Illinois 9-6 on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray Didier Field on Friday night.
After a scoreless fifth inning, the Colonels took control and scored three runs in the sixth. The frame was highlighted by a solo home run by
Basiel Williams. Later in the stanza,
Aaron Biediger hit the first of his two RBI singles and the third run came via a throwing error by the Panthers.
Garrett Felix got the scoring started with an RBI double to left center in the first inning.
Narvin Booker Jr. picked up an RBI via a sac fly in the second inning.
The Panthers' offense started clicking in the third frame as they scored four runs, highlighted by an RBI triple by Lucas Loos. The Red & Gray responded by scoring two runs in the third and one in the fourth to go up 5-4 going into the fifth.
On the mound, starting pitcher
Jacob Mayers had nine of the Colonels 13 strikeouts in five innings of work. Nico Salaformaggio earned his second victory of the season and
Haden Luke captured his second save of the season.
