THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team was beaten 52-47 by UIW inside Stopher Gym on Thursday night.
After a low scoring first half that saw the teams combine to shoot 17-53 (32%). Nicholls led 25-20 at the intermission.
In the third quarter, the Colonels went up seven before going cold and giving up a 15-2 run by UIW put them up 37-31 going into the fourth quarter.
In the final frame, The Red & Gray fought back and got within one multiple times, but the Cardinals went 11-14 from the charity stripe and put the game on ice.
Sophomore forward
Lexi Alexander led the way with 13 points and fell one rebound short of her third consecutive double-double.
Freshman guard
Britiya Curtis hit five field goals to finish with 11 points, while junior forward
Deonna Brister tallied nine points and seven rebounds while shooting 80% from the field.
UIW was led by Aliyah Collins who had a game-high 16 points and Destiny Terrell who had 12 points while shooting 50% from the field.
