THIBODAUX, La. -- Nicholls State University sophomore forward
Lexi Alexander was named Southland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Alexander was a force for the Colonels inside as she averaged 20.5 points and 12 rebounds this week.
In the win over Texas A&M-Commerce she posted a career high 28 points while shooting 50% from the field. The Round Rock, Texas native added 15 rebounds including seven offensively to claim her third double-double in the last four contests. Additionally on her huge day, she dished three assists, and had three steals.
In the game against UIW Alexander scored 13 points and fell one rebound shy of a double-double. She also registered a season-high three blocks. Her productive week brought her scoring average up to 13.9 and her rebounding average to 6.3 which ranks fifth and eighth in the SLC.
Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school's sports information director. Voting for one's own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
UP NEXT
The Red & Gray (13-14, 7-8 SLC) will play their final three regular season games on the road. First, they go to Natchitoches to play Northwestern State (Feb.29), followed by a matchup with McNeese in Lake Charles (March 2). The unit will conclude the regular season in Hammond against Southeastern (March 7).
