Neither team scored until the Colonels plated three runs in the fourth. A walk and a single set up the first run which came home on a balk, then
Cade Crosby made it 3-0 with a two RBI single to right field.
Farley's lone run allowed came in the sixth inning when Slade Wilks homered to right field. With one on and one out,
Haden Luke took over on the mound and got out of the frame when shortstop Coddou turn a double play. In the following inning, Seth Smith tied the game with a two-run single.
In the bottom of the eighth, Wilks led off with a base hit for Southern Miss but was thrown out at second by left fielder
Garrett Felix as he tried to stretch for a double. In the ensuing inning, Felix led off with a single and stole second base but was left stranded.
After the Colonels took the lead in the 10th, Southern Miss responded by putting the first three batters on.
Gavin Galy picked up a huge strikeout with the bases loaded but the Golden Eagles cut into the deficit with an RBI single and groundout. Gurrerro took over on the mound and retired Smith on the first pitch to earn his first save of the season.
The win for the Colonels is the first in the series over the Golden Eagles since 2012 snapping a six-game winless streak that featured one tie in 2015.
