LINCOLN, NE – The Nicholls State University baseball team suffered a 16-0 loss to the University of Nebraska on Hawks Field at Haymarket Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Cornhuskers scored five runs in the first and third inning, four runs in the fifth, and one in the second and fourth.
In the opening frame with the bases loaded, Garrett Anglim was hit by a pitch to bring in the first run. After that, Will Walsh hit a grand slam to right field. In the third, Walsh hit an RBI double, followed by run scoring singles by Rhett Stokes, Riley Silva, and Joshua Overbeek.
Nebraska scored on a bases loaded walk in the fourth, while in the fifth, Gabe Swansen hit a three-run homer to right center field and the Cornhuskers added a run on a fielder's choice.
At the plate, the Colonels tallied four hits and five walks.
Parker Coddou hit a leadoff double in the eighth inning and drew two free passes.
Edgar Alvarez had a base hit and walked one, while
Gerardo Villarreal and
Erick Ordonez recorded one hit apiece.
On the mound, starting pitcher
Jack Nelson suffered his first loss of the season after allowing three hits and six earned runs.
Harper Jordan gave up two hits in three scoreless innings.
