Colonels Fall to Cornhuskers in Game Three

LINCOLN, NE – The Nicholls State University baseball team suffered a 11-4 loss to the University of Nebraska on Hawks Field at Haymarket Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Colonels offense was clicking early as they were able to generate a 3-0 lead. First, Brayden Kuriger hit a sacrifice fly to plate Jaden Collura who earned a leadoff walk to begin the second inning. In the following frame, MaCrae Kendrick laced a two-run base hit to right center field to bring home Edgar Alvarez and Parker Coddou who singled and walked, respectively.

After that, the Colonels bats cooled off and the Cornhuskers were able to score four runs in the fourth and five in the sixth. Nebraska's scoring began when Will Walsh hit a three-run homer to left field followed by Rhett Stokes scoring by taking advantage of a Nicholls throwing error in the fourth.

After a scoreless fifth stanza, Stokes hit an RBI double, followed by a Riley Silva two RBI single. Joshua Overbeek plated Silva with a double before scoring on a Josh Caron single to right field.

The Colonels added a run in the top of the seventh on a fielder's choice. In the same inning, Stokes added another RBI to his stat line and later scored on a Case Sanderson sacrifice fly.

Starting pitcher Michael Quevedo allowed four hits and three runs in three innings of work, while Devin Desandro (2-2) gave up six hits and five earned runs in 2.2 innings.
