Smith, West named NABC All-District

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Nicholls State University men's basketball's all-league duo of Diante Smith and Jamal West Jr. added two honors on Tuesday as both were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 22 Second Team.

Smith was an All-Southland First Team selection and two-time SLC Player of the Week, while West garnered second-team honors, all-defensive, and was a one-time player of the week. The tandem gives Nicholls an all-district honoree for the third consecutive season.

A native of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Smith finished his debut season ranked fourth in the Southland in scoring at 16.0 points per game. He saved his best scoring effort for the championship game where he poured in a career-high 33 points against McNeese. Smith was not only a prolific scorer, but he ranked second in steals in the SLC, 10th in rebounding, and 11th in assists.

West was also among the leaders in the SLC, ranking 12th in the Southland in scoring (13.4 ppg) and fifth in rebounds (7.4) while leading the league in blocks (1.6). The Baltimore native had five double-doubles on the season and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds in his home state against Maryland.

The All-District honors are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division I. For more information or to see the complete teams, visit NABC.com.
