CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Nicholls State University baseball team tallied 11 hits in its 7-3 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Chapman Field on Thursday night.
The Colonels broke the scoreless tie in the third frame when
Narvin Booker Jr. laced a one out double to right center field to plate
Kaden Amundson who reached base on a free pass. Booker Jr. later scored on an
Edgar Alvarez two out base hit before
Gerardo Villarreal registered the first of his two RBI as brought Alvarez home with a single to left field.
In the fifth frame, Villarreal brought
Parker Coddou around to pick up his second RBI with a single to left field.
Aaron Biediger got in on the action with a solo blast to right center field in the sixth and a base hit to left field that plated Alvarez in the seventh. Coddou scored a second time on
Garrett Felix sacrifice fly.
Starting pitcher
Jack Nelson (1-1) earned his first victory of the season after striking out five and allowing five hits in five innings of action.
Nico Saltaformaggio struck out four in 3.2 innings of work.
Devin Desandro ended the game with a bases loaded strike out to earn his second save of the season.
In the fourth stanza, the Islanders loaded the bases with a pair of walks and a bunt single. Stephen Hom was hit by a pitch to score the first Islander run. The Islanders tried to rally late as Hom picked up two more RBI with a single in the eighth. However, the Colonels' pitching staff shut the door in the ninth.
