Nicholls Men's Tennis cruises in 6-1 victory at Lamar

BEAUMONT, Texas - Following a thrilling doubles point victory, the Nicholls State University men's tennis team went on to take five of the six singles matches at Lamar as the Colonels cruised to a 6-1 victory in their Southland Conference finale at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.

With the win, Nicholls improved to 7-6 overall and 1-3 in league play. The Colonels close out the regular season with five nonconference matches before heading back to San Antonio for the Southland Conference Tournament.

The doubles point came down to Court 3 as Antonio Sasso and Danail Banov edged out Joan Crespo and Haruki Omori-Cowie with a 6-4 victory. It was the closest margin in the three matchups with Kotaro Matsumura and Harry Collins winning on Court 2, 6-1.

In singles action, Quentin Lamothe and Antonio Sasso put Nicholls within a point of clinching with straight-set victories at 3 and 5, respectively. But Lamar's Brandon Do kept the Cardinals alive with a win over Banov at 4.

After dropping the first set, Harry Collins battled back against Max Amling at No. 2 and took the final two sets, 6-4, to secure the league win for the Colonels. Omar Morsy used the same formula in his three-set battle at No. 1 while Matsumura won sets 1 and 3 at No. 6.

The win over Lamar was the second in the last five meetings against the Cardinals.
