Colonels fall in High Scoring Affair

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team recorded 17 hits in its 14-12 loss to Tulane on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field on Tuesday night.

With the game tied 10-10 going into the eighth, the Green Wave scored four runs across the last two innings before the Colonels tried to make a ninth inning rally. Seniors Parker Coddou and Edgar Alvarez drove in runs on their fourth hits of the night but a hard liner to third ended the game and left the tying runs stranded.

Alvarez began his big night at the plate by smashing a three-run blast to left center field to put the Colonels up 3-1 in the second inning. Nicholls extended its lead in the third with two runs. The first coming home when Drake Anderson singled to right center.

The Green Wave responded by scoring seven consecutive runs, highlighted by a six run fourth inning that included home runs by Nathan Rose and Brock Slaton to put Tulane up 8-5.

The Red & Gray answered with their own huge inning by scoring five runs on five hits in the sixth frame. MaCrae Kendrick plated two runs with a single to right field, while Aaron Biediger and Basiel Williams drove in one run a piece. Cade Crosby finished the scoring with a sacrifice fly to put Nicholls up 10-8.

Tulane tied the game with two runs in the seventh to set up the final offensive push.

Narvin Booker Jr. led off the final frame for the Colonels with a double and later scored on a Coddou extra base hit, but Coddou was thrown out in a run down as he tried to advance to third on the throw. Alvarez added an RBI single up the middle for the final run.

Along with Coddou and Alvarez, Williams had a multi-hit effort as he went 2-6 and extended his hitting streak to a team-high six games.

Starting pitcher Dylan Farley struck out five while allowing three hits and four runs in three innings of work. Michael Guerrero pitched 2.1 innings and fanned four while allowing two hits, and Nico Saltaformaggio (3-1) picked up his first loss of the season.
