THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team picked up a pair of victories over Southeastern Baptist College on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field on Wednesday night.
GAME ONE | Nicholls 10, SBC 0
In the first game, the Colonels tallied 10 hits and 11 strikeouts en route to their fifth shutout victory of the season. Starting pitcher
Sam Hill fanned eight in four innings to improve to 2-0 on the season while
Nick Fields pitched three innings to earn his first save of the year.
Narvin Booker Jr. and
Cade Crosby led the way as the only two Colonels with multiple RBIs. In the third inning, Booker Jr. laced a single to right field that plated two runs to put Nicholls up 5-0. In the following inning, Crosby hit a two-run blast to right center field to put the game on ice.
GAME TWO | Nicholls 13, SBC 1
In the second game, the Colonels exploded for six runs in the second inning and four in the sixth. Booker Jr. kept his momentum rolling as he registered four RBI highlighted by a triple to center field that allowed three Colonels to score in the second inning. Additionally in the frame, Crosby hit an RBI single and later scored on a walk drawn by
Erick Ordonez, and
Drake Anderson added a run with a sacrifice fly.
After the Chargers scored their first run of the day on a Craig Duplantis single. The Colonels responded when Anderson doubled to left field to plate two runs followed by RBI singles by Gerrardo Villarreal and Booker Jr. Relief pitcher
Chase Richter (1-0) earned his first victory of the season.
