THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University men's tennis team picked up a pair of 7-0 road wins at Alcorn and Southern, pushing its winning streak to four matches.
Nicholls (10-6) will conclude the regular season with home matches against Prairie View A&M (Friday, April 12 at 12 p.m.) and Loyola New Orleans (Saturday, 2 p.m.).
Against Alcorn, the Colonels needed just one victory in doubles after earning a default win at No. 3. Nicholls fell on Court 2 but
Omar Morsy and
Quentin Lamothe secured the point with a 6-3 victory on the top line.
In singles,
Kotaro Matsumura highlighted the five Colonel victories with a shutout win at No. 5. Morsy and
Danail Banov won both of their matches, 6-2, 6-3, while
Antonio Sasso and Lamothe needed a tiebreaker en route to a pair of straight-set victories.
At Southern, the Jaguars had just four players in the lineup which resulted in a default loss at No. 3 doubles and singles losses at 5 and 6. Sasso and
Ammar Fekery gave Nicholls the doubes point with a shutout win at No. 2.
For singles action, Sasso and Matsumura also shut out their opponents in 6-0 wins. Morsy claimed a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 while Banov made it a clean sweep with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 win at No. 2.
