BATON ROUGE, La. - The LSU Tigers hit five home runs while five pitchers combined for a shutout as the Nicholls State University baseball team was defeated 9-0 Wednesday night at Alex Box Stadium.
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Nicholls (27-15) and prevented the Colonels from winning back-to-back games against LSU (26-16) for the first time since 2009. Nicholls defeated the No. 1 Tigers last season, 6-5.Â
The Colonels totaled three hits in the setback with
Parker Coddou,
Garrett Felix and
Brayden Kuriger all tallying a single. But the offense was held scoreless for just the second time this season. Nicholls put on at least one runner in each of the first four innings but were unable to push a run across against Kade Anderson.
Devin Desandro was tagged with the loss, allowing three earned runs on six hits in 3.1 innings. He struck out three and walked one, exiting the game in the fourth after allowing a home run to Josh Pearson for the first run of the night. The Tigers added two more in the inning for a 3-0 lead.
Following a scoreless fifth, LSU had a power surge with four home runs to close out the night. Steven Milam led off the sixth with a solo shot before Tommy White and Jared Jones went back-to-back to start the seventh. White then left the yard for the second time with a three-run homer in the eighth to make the final. He finished 4-for-5 at the plate, accouting for a third of LSU's hits.
Dallis Moran and
Harper Jordan tossed an inning-plus out of the bullpen, while
Gavin Galy,
Alexander Llinas and
Haden Luke also pitched.Â
