THIBODAUX, La. -- For the second week in a row, Nicholls State University senior pitcher
Nico Saltaformaggio was named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
The Destrahan native, picked up both wins in relief over league leading Lamar while posting a 1.00 ERA in nine innings of work. He totaled seven strikeouts and held opponents to .152 batting average.
In the series opener, Saltaformaggio struck out two batters, while allowing one hit and one run in three frames. In his second outing, he fanned five batters and pitched the final six innings to complete the shut out to clinch the series on Sunday.
After becoming one of six SLC pitchers with at least six victories, he now posts the league's fifth best ERA (3.54) and eighth best opposing batting average (.253).
The Colonels hold the tie breaker with Lamar and will enter the final week of play one game out of first place in the SLC standings.
ON DECK
The Red & Gray (32-19, 14-7 SLC) will conclude regular season action with a three game home series against McNeese on May 16-18.
