THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team defeated McNeese 4-3 on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field on Thursday afternoon.
The Colonels' offense began the game strong by scoring all four runs in the first two frames.
In the opening inning,
Edgar Alvarez and
Gerardo Villarreal got on base with back to back singles, before
Basiel Williams brought them around to score with a two out base knock up the middle.
The Colonels began the second stanza with walks by
Drake Anderson and
MaCrae Kendrick. Anderson scored on a
Kaden Amundson ground out and
Parker Coddou plated Kendrick with a two out single to right field.
After four scoreless innings, the Cowboys got on the board with a three run home run by Elliot Hebert.
Starting pitcher
Jacob Mayers (4-1) picked up his fourth win of the season after striking out eight batters and allowing two hits and three runs in five full innings of work.
Chase Richter allowed one hit and fanned two in 1.2 innings of relief. Reigning SLC Pitcher of the Week
Nico Saltaformaggio earned his second save of the season after posting five strikeouts and allowing two hits in 2.1 scoreless innings.
