THIBOUDAUX, La. -- Nicholls State University senior pitcher Nico Saltaformaggio was named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
 
Saltaformaggio had two solid pitching performances to help the Red & Gray build momentum going into the final stretch of the regular season.
 
In Saturday's victory over UIW, he took over in the second inning with the Colonels trailing 5-1. The Destrehan native earned his fourth victory of the season after allowing four hits, one run, and tallying eight strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work.
 
In the mid-week win over Southern, Saltaformaggio struck out three batters in his lone inning of action.
 
After the productive week, he now ranks third in the SLC in earned runs allowed (23) and is one of eight pitchers in the league with a sub four earned run average (3.98).
