Nicholls Softball Headlines SLC All-Academic Teams with 5 Honorees

`FRISCO, Texas - The Nicholls State University softball team posted a league-best five honorees on the 2024 Southland All-Academic Teams as Reagan HeflinAlexa Poche' and Claire Sisco were named first team, while Erin Krause and Molly Yoo received second-team honors. 

Seven Southland institutions were represented on the 2024 Southland Academic All-Conference teams with Nicholls leading the way. Southeastern, McNeese, Northwestern State, and UIW had four all-academic selections, followed by HCU with three. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi had one member of the academic teams. 

Heflin pieced together a breakout sophomore campaign where she ranked second in SLC play with a .386 batting average. She totaled 32 hits in conference, tying for first with nine doubles while driving in 16 RBIs, which tied for fourth in the SLC. On the season, Heflin racked up 16 multi-hit games and posted the seventh-best batting average with a .326 average. In the classroom, Heflin registered a 3.77 GPA in business administration.

Sisco started all 57 games at second base, batting .273 with 29 runs scored and 15 RBIs. She tied for 5th in the SLC with 20 stolen bases and ended her season by being named Southland All-Tournament. In his second year, Sisco has a perfect 4.0 GPA in allied health. 

Poche' posted a .305 batting average in SLC play, racking up five doubles, three homers and 13 RBIs. For the season, she hit .288 with seven doubles and 27 RBIs. Her final homer of her career was a walk-off in tournament win over HCU. A three-time all-academic selection, Poche' graduated last spring with a degree in Health and Wellness with minors in psychology and Spanish and has 4.0 GPA in graduate school.

Krause started at third base for the Colonels, batting .306 in league play with five doubles and a triple. She hit a walk-off single in a win over Southeastern which was one of her 12 multi-hit games on the season. Krause ended the year batting .273 with nine doubles and 14 RBIs. She holds a 3.70 GPA as an allied health major.

Yoo started 18 games in the circle, logging an 8-9 record with a 3.33 ERA. She tossed a two-hit shutout in the Colonels' win over league champion Mcneese, and also posted a win in the SLC Tournament against Lamar. In the classroom, Yoo has a 3.96 GPA in secondary education.

Six members of the Southland All-Conference Team were automatic qualifiers to the all-academic first team, including Heflin who was an All-Southland First Team selection.

The All-Academic teams are voted on by head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance staff members from each Southland Conference institution. Student-athletes must possess a 3.25 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to qualify for All-Academic selection, and have competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests on the season, excluding pitchers.
