THIBODAUX, La. – Enroute to its fourth consecutive victory, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team hit a season high 13 triples to defeat HCU 76-51 inside Stopher Gym on Thursday night.
On the offensive end, Nicholls (14-6, 7-4 SLC) shot 50% from the field while having a season-high 19 assists and on 28 made field goals. Additionally, the 13 made 3-pointers are the most the Colonels have hit in a victory this season.
The Red & Gray matched their offensive intensity on the defensive side as they forced 23 turnovers while allowing a season low 15 made field goals. The Colonels have forced at least 19 turnovers in the last four contests.
Nicholls started on fire as the unit shot 10-14 (71.4%) including 6-10 from deep in the first quarter. The squad kept the momentum rolling into the second as they hit eight field goals to hold a 46-22 lead at the intermission. The Colonels offense cooled off in the second half, but the lead was too much for the Huskies to overcome.
The Red & Gray's balanced attacked featured three double figure scorers. Senior forward
Deonna Brister hit five field goals including four from long range to finish with a game-high 14 points.
Tanita Swift and
Britiya Curtis scored 12 points and dished five assists apiece while combining for four of the 12 Colonels' steals. Both
Emani Burks and
Jesslynn Jalomo added nine points.
