Colonels Beat McNeese, Extend Win Streak to Five

THIBODAUX, La. – Enroute to its fifth consecutive victory, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team hit a season high 32 field goals to defeat McNeese 84-67 inside Stopher Gym on Saturday afternoon.

Nicholls (15-6, 8-4 SLC) had another dominant performance on defense as forced 20 turnovers for the second consecutive game. The unit often turned defense into offense and shot 43 percent in the first half while holding the Cowgirls to six made field goals across the first two quarters. The Red & Gray led 39-25 at the intermission.

Both teams shot well in the second half, but the Colonels kept their foot on the gas as they hit 19 field goals in the final two frames to keep the distance from the Cowgirls.

The Colonels balanced offense featured three double figure scorers. Elli Garnett hit eight field goals including three from long range to score a season high 23 points. She also hauled in 10 boards to register her second double-double of the season.

Tanita Swift hit six field goals and was perfect from the charity stripe to finish with 16 points while Britiya Curtis added 12 points. Both Swift and Curtis have reached double figures in three of the last four contests.

The victory secured the first regular season sweep of the Cowgirls since 2021.
